Are you a newlywed couple searching for some romantic weekend getaways in New England to spend some quality time with one another, but are too busy to plan and don’t want to break your bank? If you’re a lover or a native of New England, like we are, or even if you don’t know anything about it, here are four romantic and affordable weekend trips around the area we’d recommend for you and your significant other this spring.
Newport is a city located in the southeast of Rhode Island, famous for its mansions from the Colonial era through the Gilded Age. There are 11 historic properties still remaining today – one of which, the Rosecliff, is the site at which scenes from The Great Gatsby (1974 film) were shot.
Newport is also home to the famed Cliff Walk. The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile public access walkway, bordering the beautiful Sheep Point Cove, connecting Bailey’s Beach from the west to First Beach on the east. It runs right behind the Newport Mansions, and offers tunnels and long, winding pathways. There is even an unpaved section along the rocky New England shoreline for daredevils who are willing to take the challenge for an even better view.
At the end of your adventure, if you’re still missing the magnificent mansions, why not take the best of both worlds and find yourself in a mansion by the Cliff Walk at the Chanler? Three boutique restaurants and a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to welcome your arrival guarantees a romantic and relaxing experience, and you may just want to spend the night. With a complimentary Buick house car and private manicured gardens, the Chanler will undoubtedly give you a taste of a classic 50’s getaway.
2. Feel the ocean air of New Hampshire!
Ever feel like you want to hide away from busy city troubles and just go somewhere with less people, less traffic and more nature, preferably with your lover? Travel no further than New Hampshire to quench your thirst for surfing, to absorb the majestic views of the ocean or to enjoy the magnificent sunset at any waterfront resort in the area.
New Hampshire is not only known for its inland beaches and lakes where you can experience deep-sea fishing and white water rafting, but also perfect for couples’ outing through local covered bridges and even to the summit of Mt. Washington – the highest peak of Northeast – with New Hampshire’s longest gondola skyride for more adventurous ones.
Start off your morning with a peaceful hike through the Flume Gorge past waterfalls and scenic mountain views on both sides, grab a quick lunch from the visitor center’s cafeteria and continue your outdoorsy afternoon horseback riding or doing self-navigated zip lining with Monkey Tours (or what they’d like to call it ziptrekking). Take a break and create warm memories with your partner taking a romantic stroll down the scenic trails of Echo Lake State Park. Finish your night with a candlelit dinner and wine beside jacuzzi. Perfect weekend getaway in New England for young couples who enjoy remote adventures!

If you aren’t into the Live Free or Die lifestyle of New Hampshire, hop over the border to Vermont. Here you can hit the slopes of Killington and capture more of the picturesque New England countryside.
To snap the best pictures, escape to the Mad River Valley, Vermont where there are endless activities to choose from. If you are the adventurous type, hike up to Mount Abraham – third highest peak of the state – or soar to the sky on a sailplane-like glider. If height is not your thing, head to birdwatching hotspot or pick up a bike to head into town. The village’s charming bridges, Hartshorn Organic Farm, Lake Champlain are all waiting to be explored. If you’re into running, July might just be the right month for you to come due to the annual Mad Marathon. Don’t worry – Westhill House B&B has weekend packages for couples of each type!
