If you love southern Maine in winter – or simply want to find a cozy winter hangout – Jefferds Tavern, part of the Museums of Old York, is a pleasure. This time of year, the historic tavern, at 3 Lindsay Road in York, hosts events that make is impossible for you to hang onto any holiday-prep tension.
At the annual Whisky Tasting on December 8, whisky connoisseur Peter Blyberg returns to describe his passion for Scotch whisky. This year Blyberg presents four single-malt whiskies. Chef Bill Irish of For the Love of Food and Drink will be cooking complementary appetizers at the hearth. The menu includes Scottish smoked haddock chowder. Bill has cooked at events at Colonial Williamsburg, Mount Vernon, and Monticello. The old tavern glows with fireside tables and festive decorations.
A Yuletide Concert with Great Bay Sailor will happen December 15 at Jefferds Tavern. Great Bay Sailor’s Yuletide repertoire includes songs of Brittany, British carols of the 17th century, ceremonial marches, pub carols, tunes from the Anglican Ceremony of Carols; Appalachian Christmas music, Irish songs, and classics of the British Music Hall. This group is a favorite of local music lovers.
Twelfth Night Tavern Dinner takes place January 6 at Jefferds. This is the last official day of the Christmas season, so get on board for warmth, good food and revelry whilst you may! Guest chefs from Cliff House Maine, Cape Neddick, cook up a festive winter feast.
