One of the all-time best events of the summer is coming this Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, when the Connecticut town of Deep River hosts the annual Fife and Drum Ancient Muster and Parade 2018.
The Deep River Ancient Muster is the oldest and largest gathering of fife and drum participants and enthusiasts in the world. Up to 80 fife and drum corps dressed in historical attire converge at Deep River and parade along Main Street, passing historic buildings while performing the music that provided the cadence for troops marching into battle during the Revolutionary War.
The muster is a stationary performance in Devitt’s Field, when bands take turns doing short performances; it happens Friday at 7 p.m. The parade begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. and travels through the center of town – you won’t have trouble finding it! Fife & drum corps from all over New England and as far as Pennsylvania show up with colors and flags flying. Map
