It’s August, so we are talking about country fairs / agricultural fairs / ag fairs. By any name, you know what we mean. These are fun and often gaudy festivals in farming country to celebrate the world of farms and country living. Prepare to see beautifully groomed cows, oxen, and chickens; displays of housewifery arts like quilting and canned goods; feats of pulling strength by horses and oxen.
The farm crafts and products are just the start. Brace for demolition derbies, midway rides and games, lots of live country-western music, vendors selling all manner of interesting goods from dog collars to food choppers, and, at some fairs, fireworks. And the food – be still my heart. Fried dough, turkey legs, cotton candy, ice cream.
A visit to a country fair – for everyone, even city folk – is a refreshing view into the joys and tasty products of outdoor life. Find a country fair near you this month or in September and October. See the list below and check our Fairs & Festivals page. They’re going strong now.
