It is December 26, Boxing Day (unless you live in the old British Empire, you don’t need to care about that). One holiday is behind us, but lots of us are still off work, and the festive spirit is strong. Below are some fun events coming up this weekend (including a recovery getaway on New Year’s Day).
Cirque Celebration at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, on December 29
Cirque Celebration 2019 is a 75-minute heart-pounding, non – stop colorful explosion of athleticism, acrobatic audacity and festive imagination. This magnificent stage production will be performed in Mohegan Sun Arena, where guests will have a full 360-degree view of the action. Tickets. Saturday, 7 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“Hamilton” at the Bushnell in Hartford, CT, through December 30
“Hamilton,” an operatic sung and rapped musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton, by Lin-Manuel Miranda, took New York by storm in 2015. There will be a lottery for Hamilton with limited $10 tickets available for all public performances. Details on the lottery will be announced closer to the engagement. First Day Hikes 2019 at Maine State Parks at five state parks in Maine, on January 1
This annual event, in partnership with the National Association of America’s State Parks, inspired nearly 55,000 people across the country last year to walk over 133,000 miles on the guided hikes, which included snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, on New Year’s Day. First Day Hikes are being offer in Maine at Bradbury Mountain State Park, Holbrook Island Sanctuary, Lake St. George State Park, Lily Bay State Park, Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Jimmy Tingle Standup at The Cabot in Beverly, MA, on December 29
Jimmy Tingle a hilarious comedian, a political satirist, commentator and was a 2018 democratic candidate for LT Governor in Massachusetts. His show at the Cabot will delve into what inspired him to run for political office in 2018. It will be an insightful, compelling and very funny look at all aspects of his very serious campaign. Doors open 7 p.m.; show at 8 p.m.
Great Glen Trails Evening Snowshoe Tour at Mount Washington Auto Road in Gorham, NH, on December 29
Experience the wonder of a nighttime winter walk. Join a naturalist from the Appalachian Mountain Club on a guided snowshoe tour. We will use our senses (and no flashlights) to navigate the trails while listening for owls calling and exploring our senses. No dogs, please. Tours depart at 7 p.m.; arrive by 6:30 p.m. if you need rentals.
“Matilda the Musical” at Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT, through January 1
With the help of her kind teacher Miss Honey, the other students in her class, and a touch of magic, Matilda takes a stand against her self-centered parents and the despicable Miss Trunchbull in this heartwarming story of empowerment. More than half of the ticket are already sold; secure your tickets now. Appropriate for all ages 5 and older. Strobe and haze effects will be used in this production.
First Night Of Funny 2018 at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland, VT, on December 31
