Denison Daffodil Festival at Denison Homestead, Mystic, CT, on April 13 — Enjoy tours of the homestead and thousands of beautiful daffodils at this wooded property near Mystic. There will be an open-hearth cooking demonstration, children’s crafts, and free refreshments. This homestead is near the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, which has great trails and exhibits and a fun museum shop packed with nature books and toys. Noon-5 p.m.
Patriot’s Day Muster in Deerfield at Historic Deerfield, Deerfield, MA, on April 13 — Nathan Hale Ancient Fifes and Drums, Knowlton’s Connecticut Rangers, and Buckland’s Artillery join a re-enactment of military training day with cannon firing and musket drills. Guides will show open-hearth cooking and powder horn carving. Horse-drawn wagon rides will transport visitors through the village. Visitors can also make a powder horn, sample Liberty Tea, and use a quill pen. Food will be available.
Stomp at Providence Performing Arts Center, Providence, RI, on April 12-13 — This sensational percussion performance group uses everything but conventional instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured. Friday, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Jazz Listening Party with Ray Varga at Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, VT, on April 13 — Shelburne Museum, near beautiful Lake Champlain, and Vermont Public Radio co-host this celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month with an energetic listening party DJ’d by Ray Vega, host of Vermont Public Radio’s Friday Night Jazz. Enjoy a lively evening of music, drinks poured by Wild Hart Distillery, conversation, and dancing. Cash bar and light refreshments on site. 7 p.m.
Easter Egg Hunts. Lots of places in New England are hosting Easter egg hunts right now. It is an annual fun ritual that gets kids and parents outdoors to enjoy the coming of spring. Some egg hunts are jazzed up with extras, like photo ops with the Easter Bunny, egg painting, pony rides, and even trolley and train excursion rides.
