Start with geography: Barnstable is a town that includes seven villages; the largest of the seven is Hyannis. Arts and entertainment are provided by Hyannis HyArts Cultural District and ArtsBarnstable.

A few major highlights —
Hyarts Artist Shanties. To find these tiny art galleries, follow the Walkway to the Sea from Main Street through Hyannis Village Green to Hyannis Harbor. Artists sell their wares at two locations: the Harbor Overlook (51 Ocean Street at the corner of South Street) and at Bismore Park (100 Ocean Street). Shanties are open every day starting at 11 a.m. Artists change weekly. Art may include painting, photography, fiber arts, glass, ceramics, wood turning, mosaics, rope work and more.
Live Lunch Music with Cape Cod musicians at the Harbor Overlook, Mondays and Fridays, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. Musicians rotate throughout the season; snacks and sandwiches for sale from The Little Sandwich Shop.
Drum Circle at the Harbor Overlook, Saturdays through August, weather permitting, 4-6 p.m. Drumming is facilitated by Sam Holmstock, co-founder of Entrain!

Many events, from a Sci-Fi Book Club at Cotuit Library to Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” at Cotuit Center for the Arts
Fitness Frenzy: Shake and shimmy with Zumba on Tuesdays; Get your Zen on with Tai Chi Thursday mornings and high energy workout with Quench fitness on select Thursdays.
Outdoor Movies: In July and August, Tuesday night movies on the Hyannis Village with free fun crafts before the movie.
Town Band: Hometown charm at its best on Hyannis Village Green with Barnstable Town Band concerts every Wednesday and guest announcers.
Park and Walk: It is easy to spend art-FULL days in downtown Hyannis HyArts Cultural District, Complementary and metered parking lots are steps away from Main Street & Hyannis Harbor. Visit the artist shanties, Main Street Hyannis, museums, shops, restaurants and more, all walkable from the surrounding public parking lots.
