One of the BEST new England summer events we’ve seen — is Rockfire! in central Vermont. The two-day fest honors the region’s granite- and marble-quarrying history with nighttime parties of fire play, lantern flights, and a walk through the woods among fires and granite formations.
Day and — especially night — events happen at Millstone Hill’s abandoned quarries and granite industry ruins. The centerpiece of the event is Firewalk, a three-mile procession lit by thousands of candles and luminaries with dozens of bonfires, all leading to variety of fire-lit art installations and six live performance stages.
The words most often used to describe RockFire are “amazing, magical, one of a kind, and powerful.”
When you are in the area, don’t miss a chance to visit the Vermont Marble Museum in Proctor. Wonderful mix of industrial history of the quarries combined with the fine art of marble sculpture.
