We at VisitNewEngland.com made a trip last week to Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves in North Woodstock, New Hampshire. What a cool adventure!! It’s a one-mile walk along boardwalks, bridges and stairs in the forest, totally 1,000 steps.
The boardwalk passes small caves (if you’re not a fan of caves, you don’t have to pass through them; the boardwalk also bypasses the caves). See majestic trees and views, a rushing river, some creepy caves, a giant bird’s nest. Great fun for kids and adults who like to climb and explore.
If you like, sign up for a Lantern Tour, a guided exploration of the gorge and boulder caves at night. Also, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center brings in experts to give live animal presentations. Check the schedule on the lost River Gorge website. New features include a giant bird nest viewing platform, Forest Adventure Trail, tree house, and suspension bridge.
