Connecticut Renaissance Faire at Lebanon Fairgrounds, Lebanon, CT, through Oct. 14 — Catapult your family into the color and festivities of the Middle Ages at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire. Enjoy a Medieval Marketplace, ancient music, traditional dances, birds of prey in flight, archery, a kingly feast. Costumes encouraged but not required. Come as you are or as you wish to be. Pets allowed.
Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta in Damariscotta, Maine, Oct. 11-14 — A fun-packed weekend of pumpkin-centered silliness includes a pumpkin regatta, pumpkin catapulting, pumpkin hurling, a giant parade, a pumpkin derby, 600-pound decorated pumpkins lining downtown, a giant pumpkin drop, and Pumpkin Patch Express train rides from Brunswick to Rockland.
Oktoberfest and HONK! Parade in Davis and Harvard squares, Somerville and Cambridge, MA, Oct. 11-13 — This festival brings brass street bands from all over the world. The festival opens on Friday with a lantern parade near Davis Square neighborhoods. On Saturday two dozen bands take over Davis Square for a giant music and dance party. Scituate Art Festival in the Village Green, North Scituate, RI, Oct. 12-14 — From original modern art to one-of-a-kind antique treasures, this outdoor celebration of fine art features hundreds of vendors and displays. Take in the sights, sounds, and scents of fall in New England. Artists from all over the country will be here in idyllic Scituate for a day of fun. [photo: Robert Fishman]
Fall Festival and Wife-Carrying Championship at Sunday River ski area, Newry, Maine, Oct. 12-13 — Couples compete in this outrageous obstacle race for the grand prize of the wife’s weight in beer and cash. Also on Saturday are the wine tent and live music. On Sunday, the festival brings a Bloody Mary tent, arts and crafts, live music, skydiving, mountain park rides, wagon rides, chainsaw carving.
Mount Snow Oktoberfest at Mount Snow Resort, West Dover, VT, Oct. 12-13 — Plenty of beer, schnitzel and oom-pah music along with kids games like pumpkin painting, an apple sling shot and the famous schnitzel toss, a beanbag toss, a huge bouncy house. While the young ones are playing, adults can enjoy beers, a keg toss, yodeling contest, stein holding, and a horseshoe tournament.
Warner Fall Foliage Festival in downtown Warner, NH, Oct. 11-13 — Three days of concerts, parades, a road race, kids’ run and dance party, oxen and woodsmen’s contests, fresh lobster and chicken barbecue, rides, street performers, and many artisans, farmer’s market, and food vendors.
New England Chocolate Festival at Boston Center for the Arts, Boston, MA, Oct. 12 — This is a marketplace of chocolate makers selling their wares; artists Juan Alonso Rodriguez of Mexico and Laurel Greenfield of Massachusetts demonstrating their crafts; a Chocolate Sensorium exhibit space; and a café with free Blue Bottle coffee and TCHO chocolate pairings and Polar Seltzer drinks.
