Not surprisingly, drive-in movie theaters are popular now because of social distancing. But, hey, it’s summer (almost) and that’s the time of year this older tradition shows its best colors. Below are drive-in theaters that say they are open now. Other theaters in New England (one example is the Wellfleet Drive-In in Wellfleet, MA) say they hope to open when state governments give the go-ahead.
A couple of things to know: Many theaters are cutting back on numbers of cars admitted to keep distance between people. Also, many theaters allow you to buy tickets online. So, plan ahead; it is easy to get closed out on the night you want to attend because everybody got there (via online ticketing, for example) first. Observe social distancing and be ready to wear a mask while you are out of your car. Most theaters have single-use rest rooms and so have operating snack bars, with distancing rules. Enjoy!
