As promised, we return with details of a beloved and family-owned Christmas Tree farm: Piper Mountain Christmas Trees in Newburgh, Maine, just north of the Midcoast town of Rockland and a schootch to the west of Bangor.

Bring the family to choose a tree, browse a cozy gift shop with wreaths and garlands, handmade items, and snack on warm apple cider and homemade donuts. On weekends, enjoy choral Christmas music from Hampden Academy Voices Unlimited. Or you can pile aboard a horse-drawn carriage ride.

This pit is about a day at the farm, but if your circumstances don't allow it, the farm runs a retail lot in Hampden,  with  some of the farm's ambiance, in the form of spiced cider, donuts, and cheery goodwill, 207-234-4300.
