Berries, peaches, pears and apricots are spilling off supermarket shelves now. But we all know a trip to the supermarket is no fun. Plan a trip to a pick-your-own farm (scores of them) in every New England state and breath farm-fresh outdoor air while you shop for glorious summer fruits.

Picking fruit is a fun experience for kids and it’s tire them out, too. For those of us in whom the farming instinct does not run deep, most farms have pre-picked fruits and vegetables for sale, sometimes accompanied by flowers, honey, maple syrup and other foods.

Pick-your-own operations may range from very basic farms with a simple stand to farm markets where you may even find some entertainment or walk nearby hiking trails.

Find a peach of an afternoon farm adventure in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
