Maine -- Acadia National Park and Wild Gardens of Acadia in Bar Harbor

Drive or bicycle the luxurious carriage roads and pretty bridges of Acadia National Park. Visit the the Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring. The woodland property includes the beautiful Wild Gardens of Acadia and the Nature Center. Open through mid-October. Map

Massachusetts -- Yankee Candle & Kringle Candle in South Deerfield and Bernardston

 Yankee Candle Village is where you find candles and candle paraphernalia for any occasion. Kringle Candle Company in Bernardston, sells candles in 200 scents. Its cheery buildings include the Candle Store, the Country Barn, and the Chocolate Cottage. Both places have nice restaurants for a lunch or dinner layover. Map

Vermont -- Skyline Drive on Equinox Mountain, Route 7A between Manchester and Arlington

This private road (a toll is charged) winds and twist its way up to a summit in the Green Mountains, with panoramic views of neighboring mountain ranges and the towns and valleys below. Plan a late-afternoon-into-sunset drive. Map
