Legoland in Somerville Massachusetts for a rainy day activity with VisitNewEngland.com

We at VisitNewEngland woke up to rain today, but fortunately we are hiding out in our office. But YOU are on vacation, maybe with kids. Not to worry! Fun indoor activities – for adults, kids, and whole families -- are happening all around. Here are some tips:

A family getaway in Boston just cries out for a trip to the popular LEGOLAND Discovery Center in adjacent Somerville. Who doesn’t love playing the LEGOs? Learn building tips from the Master Model Builder Workshops; enjoy the 4D cinema, Kingdom Quest laser ride, Merlin’s Apprentice, plus 10 build and play zones. A café keeps you fueled. Map

In Reading, Massachusetts, Beanstalk Adventure Ropes Course brings the thrill of treetop canopy tours indoors. Kids and teenagers can walk the zig zag beams, crisscross angled rope ladders, and spaghetti hand lines. The BeanSprout Adventurers course is two levels of rope courses specially designed course for children ages 2-7. Wear out your kids with plenty of challenging activity to stretch for young bodies. People on a getaway to Newport, Rhode Island – which has a load of indoor fun, including shopping, museums, and the Tennis Hall of Fame – can also take a country drive to nearby Middletown for a visit and a delicious meal at Newport Vineyards. Taste the wines; dine at Brix Restaurant; browse and shop at The Marketplace. Newport Vineyards has become a leading agritourism destination, alive with music, comedy, annual clambakes and celebrations of every kind year-round. Map.

The Wyeth family of painters has captivated people literally for generations. In the beautiful Midcoast region of Maine, the town of Rockland is where you can find the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center. Just steps from the coastline that has inspired artists for centuries, the museum contains many Wyeth works and more landscapes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum also hosts visits to the nearby Olson House in Cushing, where Andrew Wyeth painted “Christina’s World.” Map.

Teddy Bear Hospital at Vermont Teddy Bear Co. Shelburn Vt with VisitNewEngland.comIn Shelburne, Vermont, the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory & Bear Shop greets visitors with a welcome by Mr. Ted E. Bear. Then you can take a 30-minute tour with a knowledgeable Bear Ambassador who will walk you through the sewing, stitching and stuffing of each handmade bear. It’s the capital of the teddy bear universe? Map.
