Our friends at Great Runs have compiled a worldwide list of best cities for winter running, and -- wouldn’t you know it --  New England shows up among entries from Quebec, Minneapolis, Scandinavia, and Warsaw, Poland.

Noted for best winter runs in New England were the city of Burlington, Vermont, and the carriage roads of Acadia National Park.

Great runs explains that, in Acadia, Nordic skiers and snowshoers pack the trail, and trails also are groomed by volunteers during the winter. Wide enough for everyone, but, runners, please don’t pound you way down the center of the ski tracks! A great web page by Friends of Acadia has a color-coded map of winter trails and information on status of grooming of the trails. Map.
