Not so long ago, people like you and me lived without electricity (lights, TV, computers, too). That made nighttime a different place than it is now. Old Sturbridge Village invites us to step into that world during its Evening of Illumination at Old Sturbridge Village on January 25. Tour the historic Village when it’s lit only by candles, oil lamps, lanterns, and firelight. Guided by lantern light around the Village Common, guests will visit villagers and enjoy music and storytelling. See Village artisans at work by candlelight. After the tours, Bullard Tavern will be serving refreshments, mulled cider, and a cash bar. Advance registration is recommended; register online. Tours are 90 minutes long. This program is recommended for ages 10 and older. Guided tours leave from the Visitor Center every 10 minutes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Fun for kids! $35/person. Tickets are selling fast! Map
Enjoy these images of 19th-century life, from the Evening of Illumination tours. Seems peaceful, doesn’t it?
