May 11, 12, 18, 19 — New Hampshire Renaissance Faire 2019 at Brookvale Pines Farm, Fremont, NH. We love the imagery of Renaissance Europe, even if the reality might not have been quite so merry and bright. Nevertheless, at this festival you will encounter lots of vivid costuming, royalty and their armed protectors, fairies, entertainment; a children’s corner with games and jousting, archery, a Maypole and more fun. Schedule and map. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
May 11-12, 2019 — Deerfield Sheep and Wool Festival 2019 at Deerfield Fairgrounds, Deerfield, NH. Farm fun! Watch sheep dogs at work; see demos of shearing and weaving; enjoy tasty local food (some healthy, some not so much); see how farming families live and work to bring us essential products like lamb chops and wool sweaters. Time: Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
May 26, 2019 — Chowderfest and Brews 2019 at Village Center, Waterville Valley, NH. Town Square is a convivial place for chowder chefs to fight it out, with you and other chowder hounds serving as tasters and judges. Admission covers heavy servings of chowder. You can also taste local beers and bop to the sounds of live music outdoors in the Town Square Gazebo. Noon-3 p.m.
May 26, 2019 — Wildquack Duck Race & Music Festival 2019 at Jackson Village Park, Jackson, NH. This cute town centered upon its own beautiful river and covered bridge always revels in this annual launch of 3,500 yellow rubber ducks. Other festive activities going on all day include vendors, an auction, train rides, a parade, and danceable live music. Bring blankets, chairs and an urge to join in.
8 a.m.-4 p.m.; duck launch is at 2 p.m.
May 5, 2019 — MayFair in Harvard Square 2019 at Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. Five stages of entertainment in this famous Boston square liven up this festival of food, dance, crafts, street art, beer gardens and more. Come watch the masters of sidewalk chalk art. Makers and merchants present clothing, art, jewelry. Noon-6 p.m.
May 3, 2019 — Daffodil Festival 2019 at Naumkeag at Naumkeag, Stockbridge, MA. This is a glorious Gilded Age house and gardens, and the presence of tens of thousands of blooming daffodils and tulips makes a spring visit here only better. Admission to the festival includes access to the grounds and the first floor of the house. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
May 15-19, 2019 — Nantucket Wine and Food Festival 2019 at various locations; Nantucket, MA. Greet chefs, winemakers and other food and wine experts. See the schedule of events for all the juicy details.
May 18-19, 2019 — Long Meddowe Days 2019 at the Town Green, Longmeadow, MA. This popular day event celebrates the history of this community with tours of the Storrs House Museum and Old Burying Yard, enjoy crafters, artists, photographers and music. Civil War re-enactors show how soldiers lived during that world-altering period. There’s a campfire on the Green on Saturday night.
May 25-26, 2019 — Massachusetts Sheep & Woolcraft Fair 2019 at Cummington Fairgrounds, Cummington, MA. This is the place to be for fiber artists and anyone to uses, appreciates, and wears wool.
May 4, 2019 — Maine Fiddlehead Festival and Local Food Day 2019 at Emery Community Arts Center, Farmington, ME.Fiddleheads – the violin-shaped spring plants that make any salad or soup pop – are the featured guests at this fest. Enjoy a day at the Farmington Farmers’ Market, live animals, talks on homesteading topics, live music, and gourmet fiddlehead cooking demonstrations. Here’s some good instruction about cooking with fiddlehead ferns. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
May 24-27, 2019 — Down East Spring Birding Festival 2019 at Cobscook Community Learning Center, Trescott, ME. Birders, dig in for four days of bird explorations, hikes, tours and presentations led by birding experts. See Atlantic Puffins up close. There are presentations for advanced, intermediate, and beginning birders. Schedule.
May 25, 2019 — Mayfest Arts and Crafts Festival 2019 in downtown Bennington, VT. More than 100 crafters and artisans present handmade crafts. Browse as you taste ethnic foods, pizza, barbecue, and more. Lots of activities to entertain kids, like a dunking booth, shooting range, and bouncy house. 10 .am.-4 p.m.
May 18-19 — Newport Waterfront Oyster Festival 2019 at Bowen’s Wharf, Newport, RI. Located on a wharf loaded with views, dining, shopping and entertainment, this oyster fest is a time of enjoy tasting this local seafood, and also a time to enjoy live music, shucking masters at work, and a chance to learn about Naragansett Bay and local food and aquaculture. Held under tents, so rain doesn’t stop this festival. 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
