Just about a month before Bristol celebrates America’s break from England with the oldest Fourth of July celebration in the country, the town will celebrate the motherland when hundreds of exotic British cars roll into town.
More than 200 classic cars are expected at the British Motorcar Festival at Colt State Park June 7 and 8, 2019. [ Map. ] From Aston Martin, to Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Austin-Healey, Triumph, MG, Morgan, Land Rover and more, most classic British car makers will be represented.
The two-day event begins on Friday, June 7, with a scenic car rally starting in historic Bristol to Little Compton and then to Westport, Massachusetts. Much of the rally will be on back roads and along the shore of the Atlantic Ocean.
Friday evening will start with a parade of British Motorcars that will proceed through the center of Bristol to the waterfront Independence Park. There the road will be closed for a Friday Night Street Party with food, drink and a live band from 6 to 9 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to dress in British attire and possibly their most elaborate British hats. “Incognito judges” will be canvassing the show grounds for impressive displays. Awards will be handed out to those selected by our incognito judges. The “Queen” will oversee the Ladies Hat Competition (open to general admission guests.)
On Saturday, June 8, the Concours d’Elegance is judged. The winners will show off their rides during a rolling review with commentary followed by the awards presentation for the British Classic Competition. Gates open at 9 a.m., when visitors can begin canvassing the field to see the vehicles and meeting the owners.
Tickets, which can be purchased at the gate, cost $10 and are available at the gate. Children under 12 are free. The event goes on rain or shine.
